Fans eager to be laid to rest near icons like Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and Frédéric Chopin have a unique opportunity in Paris. The Père Lachaise cemetery, renowned as the final resting place of these legendary figures, is now offering burial plots for sale.
Thirty gravestones across these cemeteries are deteriorating and are being offered for €4,000 (about $4,500). Buyers must restore the monument and purchase the adjacent burial plot.
"Offering eternal rest next to the stars is a compromise, Paris city officials say, that both respects the dead and lets residents be buried within the city, where there is very little room remaining for graves."
Because of great interest, the sale will be conducted as a lottery drawing scheduled for January.
