Wind and Rain Warnings Issued for B.C.'s South Coast

Strong weather has triggered overlapping warnings across British Columbia’s South Coast and the Lower Mainland on Thursday morning, as wind and rainfall intensify throughout the region.

Rainfall Warning

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a rainfall warning for several parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Howe Sound.

“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said the ECCC.

The agency warned that pooling water could affect roads and low-lying areas, possibly disrupting traffic during the evening commute and causing minor power outages.

Wind Warning

Another advisory was released for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island. Wind speeds were expected to reach between 70 and 90 kilometres per hour before calming later in the evening.

The ECCC urged residents to “secure loose objects.”

Weather Forecast Insight

Meteorologist Michael Kuss from 1130 NewsRadio noted that the rain would likely intensify during the afternoon rush hour before conditions gradually improve at night.
