South Lake Tahoe City Council floats changing city seal

South Lake Tahoe City Council Considers Changing City Seal

The South Lake Tahoe City Council discussed a proposal to modify the city seal, which has remained unchanged since 1966.

Proposed Change to the Seal

Council member Scott Robbins suggested adjusting the dotted line through the middle of Lake Tahoe by angling it diagonally at the end. He believes this adjustment would more accurately represent the state's true borders.

Opposition to the Change

“The city seal has stood as a link between our past and present. It has marked every chapter of our city’s history and remains a powerful emblem of who we are,” said South Lake Tahoe City Clerk Susan Blankenship, advocating for preservation of the existing seal.

Current Status

The proposal passed with a 3-0 vote and is scheduled for final approval in the November meeting.

Author’s summary: The South Lake Tahoe City Council is considering its first update to the city seal since 1966, sparking debate over historical preservation versus accuracy in representing state lines.
