Juliette Spencer-Besant, a 47-year-old woman from Havant, is in “disbelief” after winning £250,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery. She had intended to cancel her direct debit but forgot, leading to her unexpected prize.
The winning postcode, PO9 2LD, covers a nine-storey block of flats on Lockerley Road in Leigh Park. Three ticket holders sharing this postcode each won a quarter of a million pounds.
Juliette was stunned when Judie McCourt, a Postcode Lottery ambassador, appeared at her door with the surprise cheque.
“There was disbelief when I saw the cheque and then a wave of emotion came over me. But I managed to pull it together.”
She explained her forgetfulness: “I was going to cancel a couple of months back, but I’m really bad at personal stuff. I was going through direct debits and bits and pieces. Promotion came up at work and I’ve been working for that for the last two months and never got round to it.”
Despite cancelling some subscriptions, Juliette didn’t cancel the lottery before her busy schedule took over. She calls this win:
“Probably the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me. I’ll keep playing now.”
She plans to invest the money wisely but intends to treat herself first.
