Local Curling Clubs Receive Nearly $53K Each from Scotties Tournament of Hearts

THUNDER BAY – Three local curling clubs benefited significantly from the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. On Thursday, organizers announced that proceeds from the 50/50 draw at the national women’s curling championship, along with 10% of ticket sales from the event at Fort William Gardens, would be donated to the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club, the Port Arthur Curling Centre, and the Fort William Curling Club.

Each club received a cheque for $52,940 intended to support the growth of curling in Thunder Bay.

“Each club will get just under $53,000, which will go a long way in helping curling at the grassroots level,” said Diane Imrie, co-chair of the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts local organizing committee. “We had a great curling event and a legacy of the event is there.”

Giving Back to the Curling Community

“Curling’s been a part of my life for more years than I want to know and the curling community in Thunder Bay has been really good to me,” said co-chair Rick Lang, a former two-time world champion. “I think this is a chance to volunteer and pay back the community, and really help the clubs out.”

Lang emphasized the importance of supporting local clubs, especially when funding is often limited.
