Brock Nelson first discovered Violet Sorrengail while browsing a bookstore in Toronto with former New York Islanders teammate Matt Martin. Similarly, Scott Wedgewood became captivated by the dragon-riding romantasy series “Fourth Wing” during a drive from Michigan to Denver.
More than 2,500 fans purchased special tickets for “Fourth Wing” night on Thursday at Ball Arena, eager to celebrate Rebecca Yarros’ debut novel in the “Empyrean” series. The event also offers a chance to meet Yarros, a Colorado Springs resident and hockey mom.
“I’m pumped for that night, the jersey, having Rebecca there,” said Nelson. “I’m hoping I get to meet her. It’s cool to have that connection now. Last year, I remember somebody was like, ‘Hey, did you see the author of ‘Fourth Wing’ was at one of your games?’ I had no idea. Then I saw that she’s a huge fan. Fast forward to now with ‘Fourth Wing’ night, and it’s pretty cool.”
The Yarros family supports the Avalanche, although Rebecca’s husband, an East Coast native, grew up a Rangers fan. They attended a game in Denver last season where the topic of her throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park was discussed.
Author's summary: Fans and players alike share excitement for “Fourth Wing” night, celebrating Rebecca Yarros’ novel and the unique connection between the author and Colorado Avalanche community.
