Rod Stewart shares two children with Penny Lancaster, but he was initially hesitant to become a father again when they first met in the 1990s.
Penny Lancaster, 54, celebrated her 18th wedding anniversary with 80-year-old Rod earlier this year. The couple met in 1999, and their relationship gradually deepened. Rod proposed in 2005 during a romantic trip to Paris, and they married in 2007 at the medieval monastery La Cervara in Portofino, Italy. They have two sons together, Alastair and Aiden.
After their first son Alastair was born, Rod named his tour the Alastair Wallace Stewart Tour, scheduling flights around the baby's naps. During the tour, Penny kept Alastair’s Moses basket beside their bed, but his colic was a source of great stress.
“Every afternoon at exactly 4pm he’d give a shrill scream that sounded as though he was dying,” Penny wrote in her book Someone Like Me.
The only remedy that calmed Alastair was the sound of Rod’s Great American Songbook collection playing softly. Penny believes the music reminded their son of the womb's safety, as she had heard Rod recording while she was pregnant.
Penny Lancaster’s heartfelt account reveals the emotional and challenging moments behind Rod Stewart’s family life, highlighting the power of music in comforting their son during difficult times.
