According to court documents obtained by CBC News, Smith was formally charged on October 2nd for an alleged assault that occurred on December 30th, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He has been legally ordered not to contact the alleged victim, whose identity remains protected under a publication ban.
“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved.”
The company overseeing the production and merchandising of the show stated that Smith has voluntarily stepped away from his role as managing director. They added,

In 2016, Smith was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery following an alleged hotel incident.
