DANIEL Wilmering insists the Newcastle Jets will stick to their style of football but knows they must match the physicality of Brisbane Roar to secure a win at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday.
The Roar are known as the bully boys of the A-League, known for their aggressive, physical play. They have kept two clean sheets in three rounds and are tough to break down. This toughness is credited to coach Michael Valkanis, one of the toughest centre-backs in A-League history.
"They are a very physical side and will be up for it," Wilmering said. "We have to earn the right to play. We have to match the intensity of any team. If you lose the 50-50s and you are not in the contest, it is hard to play."
The Jets have already experienced the Roar’s physical approach in a 3-1 pre-season defeat during a friendly in Lismore.
"It was a very physical and intense game," Wilmering said. "We want to play our brand of football. If there are 50-50s to be won, we have to win them."
Summary: Wilmering emphasizes the Jets must match Brisbane Roar's physicality and intensity to succeed, while maintaining their own style of play.
