This Home-grown Wonderkid Has Been Locked Down by the Jets for Two More Seasons

The 18-year-old Will Dobson is one of the most promising young talents in the A-League. The Newcastle Jets have secured Dobson’s contract until the end of the 2027-28 A-League season, showing their confidence in his potential.

Dobson, a Belmont Football Club junior, only made his A-League debut just over a year ago. Since then, his performances have impressed Jets coach Mark Milligan, leading to a contract upgrade and extension. Initially signed on a two-year scholarship deal at the start of last season, Dobson has now earned a full A-League contract with two additional years added.

"We are delighted that we have been able to secure 'Dobbo' until 27-28," Milligan said. "Will is a local player that embodies what it means to be from the region and play for his home team. He has a fantastic work ethic and has so much growth in him. Local fans should be excited to see him progress as a player and person over the coming years."

The Jets academy product made his A-League debut in round one of last season as a substitute against Melbourne City. In the 2024-25 season, he made 12 appearances, including one start. Dobson also played a key role in the Jets' triumphant Australia Cup campaign by scoring and assisting in the quarter-final match against Macarthur FC.

Author's summary: Will Dobson, an 18-year-old local talent, has earned a contract extension with Newcastle Jets due to his impressive performances and promising future in the A-League.
