5 to 10 cm of snow expected in Toronto on Sunday

Forecast of Snowfall in Toronto for Sunday

Environment Canada predicts between 5 to 10 centimeters of snow will begin Sunday morning and persist throughout the day. The first significant snow of the season is expected in the Greater Toronto Area.

Weather System and Uncertainty

A special weather statement released by Environment Canada states:

"There remains uncertainty with respect to the track of this weather system, and as such forecast snowfall amounts may change. For areas roughly from Stratford to Orillia and northwest, confidence is lower as the higher snowfall amounts may remain to the southeast."

The area affected extends from London to Ottawa, with a snowfall warning also issued for parts of eastern Ontario, where up to 20 centimeters of snow is possible.

Expectations and Remarks

CityNews Meteorologist Chris Potter mentioned:

"This is system snow, it’s going to be widespread, so this is indeed our first widespread snow event of the season."

The snow system will begin as showers overnight, turning into snow by morning, then temporarily easing before intensifying again in the afternoon and continuing into the evening.

According to Potter, "what falls might not equate to what stays on the ground," with downtown Toronto potentially receiving around 2 cm, while northern areas could see between 5 and 10 cm.

Summary

The first substantial snowstorm of the season is forecasted for Toronto on Sunday, with varying snowfall amounts across the region and some uncertainty about the exact track of the weather system.
