Nikita Zadorov, defenseman for the Bruins, continued to rile up Islanders fans even after leaving the ice at UBS Arena. Following a heated moment with rookie Matthew Schaeffer during the Islanders' 4-3 shootout loss, Zadorov took to social media to mock fans who sent him direct messages on Instagram.
Zadorov shared screenshots of messages from fans, who called him various insults. In response, he posted on his Instagram Story:
“Get out of my DMs and go to the rink to cheer for your team. THAT PLACE WAS A [LIBRARY] TONIGHT!!!”
The clash occurred in the middle of the second period when Zadorov shoved Schaeffer with his stick, knocking him to the ice. As Schaeffer tried to rise, Zadorov pushed him back down. This sparked a response from Islanders players Anthony Duclair and captain Anders Lee, who came to Schaeffer’s defense, followed by other teammates.
Zadorov was penalized with a double minor for roughing and two minutes for interference.
After the game, Zadorov joked about increasing his penalty minutes compared to last season and took another jab at Islanders fans regarding the low noise level in the arena during the game.
“THAT PLACE WAS A [LIBRARY] TONIGHT!!!”
He expressed amusement at the quiet crowd, highlighting the lack of energy from the Islanders supporters.
