Sigourney Weaver—known for her roles in Aliens and Avatar—will join the Star Wars universe in the 2026 release, The Mandalorian and Grogu. With three major franchises already to her name, she didn’t expect to become part of a fourth.
“It was not my intention to find a fourth franchise,” Weaver explained. “I didn’t ever imagine that I would enter the Star Wars world.”
In a conversation with Empire, Weaver shared why she decided to take on the new Star Wars project.
“It’s always the script. With The Mandalorian and Grogu, they’re no longer trying to do the Star Wars to end all Star Wars. They’re letting the universe exist, and telling really interesting stories within that.”
This reflects a hopeful shift for the franchise, which has struggled to stabilize in recent years, especially following mixed reactions to Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. Weaver’s insight reveals a new approach focused on exploring diverse stories within the expansive galaxy, rather than aiming for a definitive, final saga.
Sigourney Weaver sees a fresh, promising direction for Star Wars, praising its move towards rich storytelling rather than attempting one last ultimate saga.
