Dennis Hildeby is expected to make his Toronto Maple Leafs season debut soon. After the team placed goaltender Cayden Primeau on waivers and sent Joseph Woll to the Marlies on a conditioning assignment, Hildeby will back up Anthony Stolarz in the upcoming game against the Boston Bruins.
The 24-year-old goaltender holds a 2-2-1 record this season with the Marlies, posting an .890 save percentage. In training camp, Hildeby showed promise with a .920 save percentage across three preseason games for the Maple Leafs.
While not officially confirmed, it is highly likely Hildeby will start when Toronto hosts the Carolina Hurricanes on November 10. Due to back-to-back games, the Maple Leafs are unlikely to start Stolarz on consecutive nights.
"After seeing three games of Cayden Primeau in net, it appears the Leafs saw enough of what they needed to see by placing the goaltender on waivers."
Coach Craig Berube confirmed Hildeby will back up Stolarz, who will be making his 12th start of the season against Boston.
Author's summary: Dennis Hildeby is poised to debut this season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, stepping in as backup and likely starter in a demanding stretch of back-to-back games.
