At a November 5 screening of her new film Eternity, Elizabeth Olsen revealed the daily habit that keeps her grounded. For the past three years, the actress and producer has written in a journal every morning.
Olsen explains,
“You slow down your thoughts, I think, when you start writing by hand.”This ritual acts as a pause, helping her process her day and thoughts. Sometimes she writes about what happened the day before, other times about what she is reading. She describes the habit as “kind of everything.”
Journaling also supports her acting and producing projects, including her new romantic fantasy film Eternity. Olsen says this practice leads to important “discoveries” during her work. She keeps separate journals for different purposes, including one dedicated specifically to developing characters.
The actress, 36, shared these insights at a special Los Angeles screening of Eternity, where she was joined by her husband Robbie Arnett. The film was released in theaters that month.
“It’s really helpful for work... I have three different journals. I have a work journal that's separate for [creating a] character.”
Author’s summary: Elizabeth Olsen attributes her creative focus and emotional balance to journaling every morning, which she describes as a vital tool for slowing down and inspiring her work.
