Ken Jennings, the popular “Jeopardy!” host and former University of Washington (UW) student, recently appeared in Seattle to promote his latest book of puzzles. The show “Jeopardy!” consistently attracts over 5 million viewers nightly, thanks in large part to Jennings' charm, intelligence, and strong Pacific Northwest roots.
Born in Edmonds, Washington, Jennings spent parts of his childhood in South Korea and Singapore. Before his game show fame, he worked as a computer programmer. Over 20 years ago, he competed on “Jeopardy!” and won 74 consecutive games, setting a record as the highest-earning American game show contestant.
“His success and friendly demeanor drew a lot of media attention and increased viewership.”
After Alex Trebek passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2020, Jennings was chosen to become the new host of “Jeopardy!”
Jennings attended the University of Washington for two years before serving a church mission in Spain. He then transferred to Brigham Young University (BYU), where he completed his degree. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he also pursued writing alongside his computer science career.
Jennings recently promoted his new puzzle book, The Complete Kennections: 5,000 Questions in 1,000 Puzzles, at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park. This marks his first trivia book release in more than ten years. During the event, he signed copies and engaged with a large gathering of fans.
