Lucy Liu has entered her "lob" era with a fresh haircut showcased in the trailer for her upcoming drama, Rosemead. The former Charlie's Angels star sports a short, side-parted style that falls just above her collarbone.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. It centers on Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they confront the challenges following Joe's schizophrenia diagnosis.
The movie is adapted from the 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong, titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."
This role represents a notable shift for Liu, moving away from her usual lighter, action-oriented characters seen in Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu also discussed her interest in Rosemead and similar projects during an interview with Parade.
Author’s summary: Lucy Liu reveals a bold new look and takes on a dramatic role in Rosemead, exploring complex family struggles around mental illness with a thoughtful and suspenseful narrative.
