Netflix has released a teaser for The Abandons, an upcoming Western drama series set to premiere in December. The story revolves around a fierce rivalry between two matriarchs in 1850s Oregon.
Gillian Anderson stars as Constance Van Ness, a woman determined to reclaim land inherited by her family. Opposing her is Fiona Nolan, played by Lena Headey, who currently occupies the land with her adopted children.
"We are a crossroads Fiona," Constance declares. "My pursuit of your land is not greed. It is survival."
Fiona responds, "God gave us this home, and only God can take it away."
Constance adds a sharp retort: "If I knew I was getting a sermon, I would've worn my Sunday finery."
Kurt Sutter, known for creating Sons of Anarchy, was originally the showrunner but left the production last year.
According to its official description, The Abandons explores the struggles of "a group of outlier families as they pursue life, land, and power in 1850s Oregon."
Author's summary: The Abandons promises a gripping tale of survival and rivalry over land between two determined women in a lawless 1850s Oregon setting.
