Mercy Franzonello is a junior history major and dance minor from Chelsea, Michigan. She works at Mossey Library, is a member of the Tower Dancers, and serves as co-head resident assistant in McIntyre Residence Hall.
When asked about her favorite dorm besides McIntyre, Mercy says, “I’m probably Simpson’s biggest fan. I think that all the dorms are great and accommodate different people well, but Simpson has a unique and fun culture that drives the rest of campus culture. In McIntyre, we try to live up to Simpson culture, so really, it’s a driving force for us.”
After a full day of work and classes, Mercy and her roommate have found a quirky way to relax. They visit the children’s section in the library to pick out random books to read aloud. She recalls, “One of the ones we read recently sounded like it was put through Google Translate and made no sense at all.”
Director of Academic Services Christy Maier once said, “Homework will expand to fill whatever time you give it and shrink to fill whatever time you give it.” Mercy reflects, “That’s so true, because somehow everything always gets done, even if you have limited time.”
Author’s summary: Mercy Franzonello balances academics, leadership, and community involvement while embracing the unique dorm culture and finding creative ways to unwind at Hillsdale.
