Schiphol Airport has announced the cancellation of a planned 5% increase in fees for airlines due to concerns about affordability and criticism from carriers.
“Airline fees for 2025 would have had a significant impact on carriers operating to and from Schiphol,”
said Robert Carsouw, Schiphol’s chief financial officer. The decision comes after a 41% rise in airport fees last year. Airlines had warned they might shift flights abroad to maintain lower ticket prices.
The airport seeks a balance between cost and quality, acknowledging that higher fees are needed for investments, but risking being seen as "too expensive" by airlines.
