At a recent unveiling of the elegant Longbow Speedster, John Mayhead spoke with the company’s principals about what makes this vehicle unique.
Everyone loves an origin story. Consider the impact of the Bugatti Type 35 when six of them arrived at the French Grand Prix in Lyon, August 1924. Or the media frenzy at the Geneva launch of the Jaguar E-Type in March 1961. More recently, the buzz around Elon Musk’s reveal of the Tesla Cybertruck in Los Angeles, November 2019, was equally intense.
What made these launches unforgettable was the risk they carried—each introduced bold, new ideas. The Bugatti’s tires shredded in its first race, the Cybertruck’s “unbreakable” windows shattered on stage, and the E-Type roadster arrived in Geneva moments before its first test drive, thanks to an epic overnight journey by Norman Dewis.
"Like its E-Type predecessor, the Longbow Speedster is intended to tread a new path, combining a beautiful body, cutting-edge EV powertrain, and almost unbelievable light weight with a relatively low retail price and a new concept of after-sale support."
The Longbow Speedster was unveiled last Thursday in a cool event space beneath a Victorian railway arch in Brixton, one of London’s most vibrant and multicultural boroughs. Much like the E-Type, it made its timely entrance just in time for the spotlight.
This new British roadster aims to combine heritage with cutting-edge technology and affordability, carving its own niche in the EV landscape.
Author's summary: The Longbow Speedster emerges as a bold British EV roadster that blends classic design with innovative technology, lightweight build, and accessible pricing, promising a fresh direction in the market.
