The Orioles are addressing their outfield depth as the offseason progresses, not focusing solely on bullpen improvements. They reached an agreement last night with veteran outfielder Leody Taveras on a one-year deal, pending completion of a physical examination.
The contract is worth $2 million, according to Spotrac.
Leody Taveras, 27, is a switch-hitter who earned $4.75 million this past season. He played 58 combined games for the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners, posting a batting line of .205/.226/.304.
Seattle claimed him off waivers on May 6 but designated him for assignment about a month later. Taveras became a free agent in October.
“The Orioles aren’t focused only on their bullpen as the offseason has moved into a new month. Outfield depth also must be addressed.”
Leody Taveras strengthens the Orioles’ outfield options, bringing speed and experience with a recent World Series championship to the roster.
