Ryan O'Reilly of the Nashville Predators is increasingly seen as a potential trade target this season. His name has been circulating again in league discussions, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, who mentioned him during a recent episode of Oilersnation Everyday.
With Nazem Kadri drawing recent attention and several teams already seeking depth at center, the market for centers is beginning to gain momentum as early as November. If Nashville fails to mount a strong playoff push soon, O'Reilly—a pending unrestricted free agent—could be moved once more.
“O’Reilly’s name is starting to make the rounds again,” said David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
At 34 years old, O'Reilly offers both steady production and valuable leadership. His manageable $4.5 million cap hit, negotiated by general manager Barry Trotz in 2023, makes him even more attractive to potential suitors. Initially considered a short-term addition expected to guide younger players and shift into a third-line role, O'Reilly instead revitalized his game, posting 69 points in his first season with Nashville.
Despite the team’s difficulties last year, O'Reilly still recorded 53 points across 79 games and has maintained similar pace this season. With his contract nearing its end, the veteran center remains a significant presence in the locker room, but growing trade interest may eventually be too tempting for Trotz to ignore.
Ryan O’Reilly’s consistent production and affordable contract keep him central to Nashville’s plans, but if the team doesn’t rebound soon, strong trade offers could shift his future again.
