The special was filmed live in October at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles in front of an audience. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo co-host the event and perform songs from both Wicked and Wicked: For Good. Other cast members featured include Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard of Oz), Ethan Slater (Boq), Marissa Bode (Nessarose), and Bowen Yang. Jonathan Bailey was unable to participate.
