Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to discuss strategies for reducing crime and antisocial behaviour in the town. The discussion followed several major police operations across Hertfordshire aimed at improving community safety.
During the meeting, Taylor urged that Hemel Hempstead be selected as a pilot area for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These orders would grant police stronger authority to deal with repeat offenders and nuisance behaviour.
“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough,” said David Taylor. “I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
The MP highlighted the importance of collaboration between local authorities, housing associations, and police forces, particularly following recent enforcement activity in Hemel Hempstead.
“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together. That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community,” Mr Taylor added.
Taylor also praised Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and dedication to keeping residents safe.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure,” he said.
