Kyle Bevan was serving a life sentence at HMP Wakefield for murdering his stepdaughter. Earlier this week, three men were charged after Bevan was found dead in his prison cell.
The investigation began after 33-year-old Bevan was discovered dead at 8:25 am on Wednesday, November 5. West Yorkshire Police announced that Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63, have been charged with Bevan's murder. All have been remanded into custody and were scheduled to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
Bevan was convicted for the murder of his two-year-old stepdaughter, Lola James, at Swansea Crown Court on April 4, 2023. He received a life sentence with a minimum term of 28 years. Lola’s mother, Sinead James, was also found guilty of causing or allowing her daughter's death and sentenced to six years.
The court heard that Bevan inflicted "catastrophic" brain injuries on Lola at their family home in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, in the early hours of July 17, 2020. Lola died in the hospital four days later.
Bevan denied causing harm and claimed the family dog pushed Lola down the stairs. During the four-week trial, it was revealed that Bevan and James met on Facebook in February 2020 and that Bevan moved into the family home in Haverfordwest shortly after they met.
