Fairphone, a company known for making smartphones from ethically sourced materials and focusing on repairable, sustainable hardware, has sold its products only in Europe until now. Although some Fairphone models have appeared in the US via the /e/ Foundation, these came with higher prices and used the Android-based /e/OS without Google services.
Fairphone's CEO Raymond van Eck told Reuters the company is launching its first product in the US market — a pair of repairable headphones. This move may pave the way for future sales of Fairphone’s sustainable smartphones directly to US customers.
“Fairphone is bringing its repairable headphones to the US. Up until now the company, which focuses on ethically-sourced & sustainable devices, has only sold its phones & accessories in Europe… although Murena does resell some.”
Sony has introduced cloud game streaming to the PlayStation Portal handheld device. Initially designed for streaming games over a local network, the Portal now supports cloud gaming, which has been in beta since last year and does not require a PS5 console to operate.
Fairphone’s entry into the US with repairable headphones hints at a growing market for sustainable, upgradeable consumer electronics.
