Children found no shortage of candy this Halloween evening on St. John. The festive spirit filled Mongoose Junction and the gravel lot in Cruz Bay, where the Trunk-or-Treat event took place.

Parents guided their little ones carefully down the main staircase at Mongoose Junction, where they met Raven Phillips of Bajo El Sol. Phillips shared candy with young visitors, including Curious George (Finn) and his mother, Willow Melamet.

Those who arrived before 5 p.m. were treated to a bonus — free books from the Little Free Library. Jeannie Bishop handed out the books while Phillips watched with a smile. A young fisherman paused at the display, intrigued by the selection, while artist Janet Cook-Rutnik, dressed as a character from an Eric Carle story, helped distribute more titles.

Photographer Yelena Rogers and her dog stopped for a quick photo before leaving Mongoose. As evening settled, many families moved on to the gravel lot for Trunk-or-Treat, where adults turned their car trunks into playful haunted scenes. Jennifer Costanzo and Tessa Chilson from Moms Who Trunk presented one particularly imaginative setup.

“As daylight faded, most trick-or-treaters moved on to the gravel lot for Trunk-or-Treat.”
