Edie Falco Eyes Female Superhero Role

Edie Falco has expressed interest in portraying a female superhero, describing it as an exciting new challenge. Known for her Emmy-winning performances in “The Sopranos” and “Nurse Jackie,” the actress enjoys exploring complex, multifaceted characters.

“Never have I said I can’t do that,” she explained. “You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”

Falco said that she actively seeks roles that allow her to dive into layered personalities, noting that portraying characters with simpler lives holds less appeal to her.

“I look for those [complicated characters]. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”

Now 62, Falco reflected on her career and felt grateful for the opportunity to embody such diverse female roles. She noted that portrayals of women have evolved significantly over time.

“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated. I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”

She also suggested that avoiding early typecasting helped her sustain longevity in Hollywood.

“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”

Looking ahead, Falco is considering taking on a political role, jokingly saying it might allow her to “get something out of her system.”
