Witkoff: Hamas Ready to Surrender Weapons to International Force
Steve Witkoff, U.S. envoy, announced at the America Business Forum in Miami that Hamas is prepared to hand over its weapons to an international security force in the Gaza Strip.
He added that Washington is applying pressure on Israel to allow Hamas militants besieged in Rafah, southern Gaza, to evacuate the area.
"Hamas has always made it clear that it is ready to hand over its weapons," Witkoff stated, referencing even a past communication with Jared Kushner, advisor to President Donald Trump.
The envoy expressed hope that Hamas will honor its commitment, saying,
"If it does, it will realize that the development plan we have for Gaza is truly extraordinary, much better than what was proposed in the past."
The plan includes a broad program aimed at creating jobs and improving economic prospects in Gaza.
