Ethan Hawke’s portrayal of legendary song lyricist Lorenz Hart in Richard Linklater’s new film ‘Blue Moon’ has earned him some of the best reviews of his career.
Since his role in the 1989 best picture nominee ‘Dead Poets Society’, Hawke has been a prominent figure in American cinema, both acting and writing. He received Oscar nominations for his performances in ‘Training Day’ (2001) and for his screenplay in ‘Before Sunset’ (2004). In 2025, he was honored as Variety’s Virtuoso at the Miami Film Festival GEMS.
“Rick sent me the script 10 years ago. He said back then, ‘We’re not ready,’ meaning I’m not ready,” Hawke explains about the film’s long development.
His beautiful, mournful, and layered performance reflects that he was ultimately prepared to take on this complex role, which falls outside his typical comfort zone but aligns with a deep personal connection.
Ethan Hawke’s acclaimed role as Lorenz Hart in ‘Blue Moon’ showcases his versatility and dedication, marking a high point in his diverse and distinguished career.
