During his first visit to Miami on November 2, Ethan Hawke reflected on decades of filmmaking while receiving the Miami Film Festival’s Variety Virtuoso Award. Speaking with Variety co–editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, he revisited key moments from his career alongside Hollywood figures like Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ben Stiller, and Julia Stiles.
Hawke brightened as he recalled reuniting with his Dead Poet’s Society co-star Josh Charles for Taylor Swift’s Fortnight music video featuring Post Malone. The collaboration came about unexpectedly through his daughter, Maya Hawke.
“My daughter is creating opportunities in my life. I get a text from my daughter saying, ‘Hey dad, Taylor Swift wants your number.’ So I guess they met. And anyway, Taylor Swift is a Dead Poet’s Society fan, and so, hell, I’ll take what I can get,” he joked.
Hawke spoke admiringly of Swift’s artistic talent and energy.
“That woman is incredible. She’s a force of nature.”
His comments came just as Swift made waves again with a fresh version of her chart-topping track from The Life of a Showgirl.
Ethan Hawke shared heartfelt admiration for Taylor Swift while recounting how his daughter Maya helped connect them for Swift’s Fortnight video collaboration.
