Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Review

Zelda's journey through Hyrule's ancient past delivers the best experience yet in the Hyrule Warriors series. Playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, I naturally connected it to the story of Tears of the Kingdom and how Age of Calamity interpreted the backstory of Breath of the Wild.

While Zelda games have never ignored story, I felt recent entries were somewhat flawed despite their potential. I appreciated the idea of a story unfolding behind the scenes in Tears of the Kingdom, set after Breath of the Wild, but it left me unsatisfied in important ways.

On paper, Age of Imprisonment promised to fulfill those narrative gaps, offering a deeper and more emotional story. However, like Tears of the Kingdom, success depended on its delivery and being a solid Warriors game as well.

"It’s a sleeper hit for my personal game of the year."

To clarify, this review assumes readers have at least basic familiarity with the Dynasty Warriors series, given the nature of Age of Imprisonment.

Summary

Age of Imprisonment combines an emotionally rich story with polished gameplay, making it the standout title in Hyrule Warriors for fans seeking both depth and action.
