Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is set to introduce three robotaxi models in 2026 and begin trial operations for the service. The announcement was made by the company's chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, during the 2025 AI Day event in Guangzhou, Xpeng's headquarters.
Each robotaxi will be equipped with four of Xpeng's in-house developed Turing AI chips, providing computing power up to 3,000 TOPS. These vehicles will utilize Xpeng's second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model, designed to adapt to diverse global traffic conditions.
The models will include external interaction capabilities, allowing pedestrians to understand the vehicle's intentions—such as turning or parking maneuvers—displayed via the windshield.
Xpeng plans to release its robotaxi Software Development Kit (SDK) to foster collaboration with partners worldwide to develop a comprehensive robotaxi ecosystem.
