Former NFL star Antonio Brown was extradited from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the United States to face trial for an attempted murder related to a shooting that took place in May. The incident occurred outside a Miami boxing event earlier this year, police confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Brown, 37, is currently held in Essex County, New Jersey, awaiting extradition to Miami-Dade County, according to Miami police. The specific time of his apprehension and transfer to Miami-Dade remains unclear.
“This is just another example of the relentless work and dedication of Miami Police detectives, working closely with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals to identify and arrest those who commit crimes in the City of Miami,” the police statement said.
Miami police are coordinating with multiple agencies to extradite Brown back to Miami-Dade County, where he will stand trial for the charges. His current detention in New Jersey is temporary until that process is complete.
The case reflects ongoing efforts by Miami law enforcement to hold individuals accountable for violent crimes in the city.
