Antonio Brown, former NFL wide receiver, is being extradited to Miami to face charges of attempted murder related to a shooting that occurred outside a celebrity boxing event in May.
Miami Police confirmed that Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai to Miami. The U.S. Marshals Service reported that he arrived in Newark, New Jersey, and was booked into Essex County Jail the same day.
During his time on the run, Brown posted videos from Dubai that Miami Police interpreted as taunting. Officer Michael Vega stated:
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh.”
Vega emphasized:
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
A warrant was issued in June charging Brown with attempted murder using a firearm for the May 16 shooting near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street, Miami.
An off-duty police officer, working event security, told investigators that he left the scene after hearing gunfire. He also saw Brown engaged in a physical fight with another individual in the parking lot.
Antonio Brown faces serious legal consequences as Miami authorities ensure accountability regardless of fame or wealth.
