Antonio Brown, former Central Michigan University and NFL star, was arrested in Dubai and transported to Newark, New Jersey, where he currently awaits extradition to Miami. Miami Police confirmed Brown faces an attempted murder charge linked to a May 16 shooting.
The charge relates to an event following a celebrity boxing match in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood. Brown was initially detained briefly after shots were fired. At the time, Brown posted on social media that he had been “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.”
“Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED,” Brown wrote.
According to an Associated Press report from June, Brown was later named in an arrest warrant. He is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at a man involved in a prior fistfight with him. One bullet reportedly grazed the victim’s neck.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales issued a statement confirming Brown’s custody in Newark and announced his impending extradition to Miami to face charges connected to the shooting.
“Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice,” Morales said.
Antonio Brown's arrest highlights the persistent efforts of law enforcement to hold individuals accountable, regardless of their public status or whereabouts.
