Channel 9’s chief footy reporter, Tom Morris, has made a surprising move to rival network Channel 7. The 34-year-old announced on Friday that he accepted a lucrative offer from Channel 7, according to Code Sports.
Seven’s head of sport, Chris Jones, and SEN boss Craig Hutchison played key roles in recruiting Morris. He will join a strong team of footy talents, including recently poached Xander McGuire and Mitch Cleary.
Morris is not expected to be the chief footy reporter; that role remains with Mitch Cleary. Together with Cleary and McGuire, Morris will form a powerful reporting trio.
This move follows Channel 7’s earlier success in recruiting Kane Cornes from Channel 9 before the 2024 AFL season. Morris reportedly made the switch because Channel 7 holds the broadcast rights for both football and cricket.
Tom Morris had been with Channel 9 since January 2024.
