Thailand welcomed over 100 contestants on Sunday as the 74th Miss Universe pageant kicked off in Bangkok, including Cambodia’s representative.
The competition, themed “The Grand Universe: The Power of Love, The Power of Thailand,” is the fourth time Thailand has hosted this global event. The pageant activities will continue through November 21 in Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, showcasing Thailand’s tourism and culture.
The Cambodian contestant, Thai Neary Socheata, also known as Fiyata, arrived in Bangkok despite Cambodia’s national license holder, ELEVENTO9 Company, announcing the country’s withdrawal a day earlier because of ongoing tensions with Thailand.
Fiyata’s independent decision to participate sparked discussions online in both countries. Upon arrival, she was warmly welcomed by Cambodian fans at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
“I’ve arrived safely in Thailand. Thank you for the warm welcome, kindness, and support from everyone. Your love truly means so much to me.”
The 74th Miss Universe pageant in Thailand highlights regional tensions but also the spirit of individual determination and cultural exchange within the international event.
