New Zealand is preparing for next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup by competing in a home five-match T20I series against the West Indies. The squad, unveiled for this series starting Wednesday in Auckland, includes 14 players but misses several key members due to injuries.
Despite these absences, fast bowler Kyle Jamieson and spinner Ish Sodhi are selected to feature in the series.
Former captain Kane Williamson has retired from T20 internationals as of Sunday, with all-rounder Mitchell Santner stepping in as captain for the upcoming matches and the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
“It’s great to have five opportunities to take on a dangerous side like the West Indies,” said New Zealand coach Rob Walter.
Spin duo Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner, dubbed "New Zealand's spin twins," will play a crucial role in both this series and the T20 World Cup campaign.
