Two Stunning Poppy Displays Installed in Loughborough Ahead of Remembrance Sunday

Charnwood is located centrally within the triangle formed by Nottingham, Leicester, and Derby. Over one third of its population of more than 155,000 live in the vibrant university town of Loughborough.

Two impactful poppy displays have been set up in Loughborough as the town prepares to honor its fallen heroes on Remembrance Sunday. These displays adorn trees in Queen’s Park and on the Forest Road Greenbelt, with each tree decorated with approximately 6,500 handmade, knitted poppies.

The initiative is led by Loughborough in Bloom and the Forest Road Greenbelt Gardeners, supported by various volunteer groups and individuals. The trees were dressed in advance of the Remembrance Sunday service held in Queen’s Park on Sunday, 9 November.

Messages from Organizers and Officials

“This is a moving tribute to all those who have served our country and lost their lives in action,” said the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr David Northage. “I would like to thank everyone involved with the poppies being knitted and installed onto the trees as they create a real centre piece ahead this year’s Remembrance Sunday service.”
Pat Cook, chair of Loughborough in Bloom, added: “Loughborough in Bloom pays its respects each year to those who have served and lost their lives in the armed forces and it is fantastic to be able to dress the trees in poppies once again.”

These displays offer a poignant and visual reminder of the sacrifice made by service members, enriching the town’s commemorations.
