Somerset Council reminds eligible residents to receive their flu vaccination if they have not done so already. The flu jab is most effective when taken in autumn or early winter, before the flu virus spreads widely.
This year, flu cases are already being reported. Flu is more serious than a common cold; it can increase the risk of severe lung and airway infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and worsen existing health conditions.
“Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe and helps stop the spread to those most at risk.”
– Councillor Graham Oakes, Executive Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment
Flu spreads easily and can sometimes lead to hospitalization or even death. Since the flu virus evolves constantly, annual vaccination is recommended. The NHS usually informs eligible residents when they can book their appointment. Those who believe they are eligible but haven't been contacted should consult their GP practice.
Getting vaccinated is a simple and effective way to protect yourself and your community.
Somerset Council urges eligible residents to get vaccinated against flu as early as possible to reduce health risks and protect vulnerable people in the community.
