The Manx Amateur Drama Federation (MADF), which celebrated its 75th anniversary this year, has announced it will not hold its traditional Easter Festival of Plays in 2026. Instead, MADF will host a Festival of One Act Plays in March at the Erin Arts Centre.
The decision to pause the full festival comes after a milestone celebration, with a return planned for 2027. Meanwhile, the popular one act plays event will take place from March 12 to 14 at the Erin Arts Centre.
MADF has invited drama societies from the Isle of Man and the UK to submit short plays. These plays will be performed and subsequently adjudicated by Sue Doherty from the Guild of Drama Adjudicators.
"Sue Doherty brings more than 40 years of experience in arts education and theatre to this year’s festival."
Sue, Head of Performing Arts at St Julie’s High School in Liverpool, has been a strong advocate for arts access for young people. Many of her students have gone on to study at prestigious institutions such as RADA, Guildhall, and LIPA, achieving success on stage and screen, including BAFTA winner Jodie Comer.
Her experience also includes work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, leadership in City of Culture projects, and creating impactful verbatim theatre addressing social issues.
MADF remains committed to supporting and showcasing local and UK drama talents through these specially curated events.
Author's summary: The Manx Amateur Drama Federation pauses its main festival in 2026 but continues to nurture talent through a focused one act play festival, celebrating decades of commitment to theatre.
