Universal Pictures is reviving one of its most iconic action-adventure franchises with a new installment of The Mummy. Multiple sources report that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in discussions to reprise their classic roles from the 1990s and 2000s films.
“Universal Pictures is returning to one of its most beloved action-adventure franchises, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in discussions to return for a new Mummy movie,” sources told Deadline.
The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, working from a script written by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Producing duties will be handled by Sean Daniel, a veteran of the franchise, along with William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.
This film marks another collaboration between Radio Silence and Project X Entertainment, following their successful reboot of the Scream franchise — though the duo did not direct the upcoming Scream 7. They also worked together on Ready or Not: Here I Come for Searchlight Pictures.
Fraser and Weisz first starred together in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001), both directed by Stephen Sommers. The films reimagined one of Universal’s original movie monsters from the early 20th century and together grossed more than $400 million globally.
Author’s Summary: Universal is reviving its classic Mummy franchise with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz likely returning, under the direction of Radio Silence for a new high-profile adventure.
