Reports from Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Spanish broadcaster Mike Rodriguez indicate that free agent outfielder Leody Taveras has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
The 27-year-old switch-hitting center fielder appeared in 58 games this season with Seattle and Texas, recording a .205 batting average, three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS. He also stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
In 2024, Taveras played 151 games for the Texas Rangers, hitting .229 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS. He successfully stole 23 bases out of 29 attempts.
After June 7, Taveras did not make another major league appearance. The Seattle Mariners assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma, where he posted a .280 average, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and an .804 OPS, along with 23 steals in 24 attempts.
The Orioles will need to make space on their 40-man roster before officially adding Taveras.
“Free agent outfielder Leody Taveras is signing with the Orioles on a one-year, $2 million contract,” reported Jon Heyman and Mike Rodriguez.
