Aimee Lou Wood shared how embodying her character Chelsea in the hit HBO series The White Lotus helped her face body dysmorphia during filming. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, she explained how this experience gave her renewed self-confidence.
Wood, 31, revealed that filming scenes in a bikini triggered body dysmorphia she had struggled with since her teenage years. The Mayo Clinic defines this condition as an obsessive focus on perceived flaws in one’s appearance.
“I shook myself out of it by thinking, 'It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does,'” Wood told Harper's Bazaar.
Wood credits her character Chelsea for helping her overcome negative thoughts about her body. While she often needs time to separate herself from her roles, she values the confidence and growth acting brings her.
“It’s precisely what I enjoy about my job,” Wood admitted.
