Several Miss Universe contestants left a pre-pageant event after Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil insulted Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, calling her a “dumbhead.”
The confrontation occurred on November 3 during a ceremony streamed live on Miss Universe Thailand’s Facebook page. Itsaragrisil called out Bosch, criticizing her for not fulfilling a promotional duty for the organization.
“Mexico, where are you? I heard you did not agree to post everything about Thailand, about every article of our own activities. Is it true?” – Nawat Itsaragrisil
Bosch acknowledged misunderstanding the obligations she had. This prompted Itsaragrisil to escalate the situation, accusing her of only following her national director's instructions.

When Bosch stood up to respond, Itsaragrisil criticized her for talking, to which she asserted, “I have a voice” and expressed that she was not being respected as a woman.
Following the harsh exchange, multiple contestants chose to leave the event in protest.
