Representative Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) is under scrutiny for allegedly hiding ownership of stocks in at least 25 companies in her congressional financial disclosures, reports the Washington Free Beacon.
During her time as a Texas state lawmaker in 2021, Crockett declared ownership of stocks in 28 companies from various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, fossil fuels, technology, automotive, and marijuana.
However, Crockett did not report 25 of those stocks in her financial disclosures to Congress for the same year. Some of the undisclosed companies could have benefited from legislation she introduced, according to the report.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog group, filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct about the possible violation of the Ethics in Government Act.
"When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust," said FACT executive director Kendra Arnold.
This federal law stipulates that knowingly submitting false financial disclosures can result in criminal penalties, including prison time.
Jasmine Crockett is accused of concealing significant stock holdings in her congressional disclosures, raising possible legal violations under the Ethics in Government Act.
