Aimee Lou Wood shared how her character Chelsea in The White Lotus helped her cope with body dysmorphia. She explained that focusing on what her character wanted, instead of her own desires, was a turning point in her recovery.
"I shook myself out of it by thinking, 'It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.' Acting has always been a safe place for me to work out my feelings."
Though she sometimes takes time to separate herself from a role, Aimee appreciates the insights and growth that come from the experience.
In addition to body dysmorphia, Aimee experienced bulimia and social anxiety during her teenage years. She was diagnosed with ADHD in early 2025. Discussing her mental health in an interview with Radio Times in September 2025, she highlighted how acting transformed her perspective.
"I don’t need everyone to understand me. The people that get me, get me."
Aimee Lou Wood credits her acting roles, especially in The White Lotus, with helping her manage body dysmorphia and mental health challenges by allowing her to explore different perspectives safely.
