The Miami Heat’s struggles in the middle were clear even before Bam Adebayo left early in Wednesday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets. An MRI on Thursday revealed Adebayo has a sprained left big toe.
Adebayo has been ruled out for Friday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets at Kaseya Center and is expected to be listed as day-to-day. The Heat’s next game after that is Saturday night at home versus the Portland Trail Blazers.
Due to Adebayo’s injury, the Heat called back former Florida Atlantic University center Vlad Goldin from the G League on Thursday.
Even before Adebayo left the game in the first quarter, the Heat’s issues at center were apparent. Without him, the team barely had any presence in the paint.
“The roster math was evident to almost all even before the subtraction of Adebayo,” said observers after the loss.
Veteran guard Norman Powell reflected on the reality facing the Heat, noting that only Adebayo and second-year player Kel’el Ware were seen as reliable center options going into the season.
“When it comes to the center position, there previously wasn’t much there in the first place,” Powell said. “Now the question becomes whether the team can measure up without him.”
Adebayo was limited to just the first 8 minutes and 12 seconds in the 122-112 loss to Denver, underscoring the challenge Miami faces moving forward.
Summary: Bam Adebayo’s toe sprain sidelines him as the Heat face significant challenges at the center position, prompting roster changes and raising questions about their competitiveness in upcoming games.
